The Fallacy of All Things Post-Christian
“Post-modern” was the first term I recall that used the “post” prefix. The suggestion: an unidentified period was now following a clearly defined period of time. If there was an era known and understood to be “modern,” then the period to follow it was “post.” The new period is not yet labeled to include its own defining features, which will offer a better title for what is comprised within that period. Men have a penchant for playing God, even with time periods.
The generation of Jesus Christ, or the age of Christianity, or the Christian era does not end until the second advent of Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is impossible for there to be a Post-Christian anything, and there is nothing more definitive in the world than Jesus Christ saving His people and building His church. This is the ultimate defining Person and event in the so called, “Common Era.”
Jesus Christ incarnated some two thousand years ago, and with His resurrection from the dead, ascension into heaven, enthronement and session as King of heaven and earth…He reigns, and His kingdom has no end.
“Post-Christian” is a misnomer at best, and surely a theological error of serious significance. Terms represent ideas, and our objection to this term is not semantics.
Errors in eschatology are derived from errors in biblical interpretation. Many have gained fame and some have even gotten rich using eschatological poppycock. Creating a sense of “Calamity Coming,” or even Christian fatalism is fodder for weak brethren. Almost all eschatological shenanigans are the product of man-centered theology, also known as Arminianism.
In Arminianism, God is reduced from sovereign Lord of all, to helpless bystander — a mere witness to a cosmic crime of His being rejected by humanity. The term “Post-Christian” is a denial of God’s eternal decree and purpose (Eph 1:11; 3:11). It implies an interruption to His sovereign work. When Jesus declared, “I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it (Mt 16:18),” He was prophesying of His unstoppable construction of His Holy Temple in the Spirit (Eph 2:11–22).
When men focus on men, instead of Christ, then they are blown in every direction by this year’s prevailing wind of doctrine and events. These self-initiating interpreters of the sign of the times always expose them to be false teachers, whipping the flock of God into a time-sensitive frenzy. They are false shepherds, and their sheep, usually building a bunker or hoarding food and guns somewhere, never find rest. If the end of the world is not coming later this year, it already came with the departure of the Holy Spirit from some geographical location. One can plan for the conference road tour, with the usual cadre of charlatan spiritual climatologists. These experts, with their, “End of the World Power Team,” will be selling their 10th anniversary edition of their bestselling, new and updated, “Late Great Bible Prophecies for the Post-Christian Era.” Of course, there is a limited supply and this is a limited time offer.
When God elected His beloved, unto salvation, in eternity past, He gave His Word that none of them would be missing at the consummation of the ages. The eternal Word of God has decreed all things that shall come to pass. Believers in every age have received the Word, from the Spirit, and the gathering of God’s elect will continue until the full number, of the roll call in the Lamb’s Book of Life, is complete. Simply put, there is nothing Post-Christian about God’s predetermined plan to save His people from their sins; or, in other words, when it comes to the Word of truth, there is no plan B, no post-truth.
The fallacy of Post-Christian anything is the result of reading one’s news feed instead of the Bible. It is always time sensitive, world focused, man-centered, pot-stirring. It troubles Christ’s sheep with human speculations, causing them to part with their money, in order to gain vital insights into the latest world events, that are now, surprisingly, dictating the hand of providence. I lucubrate in utter jest at the dystopian dismissal of the sovereign God. God controls every event, not vice-versa.
Post-Christian? When you witness the heavens and the earth aflame with the fires of God’s just judgment, then you can use the term. Until then, read your Bible, preach the news that never changes, and declare today, tomorrow, and until the end of the age…the kingdom of God is at hand!
