The Fallacy of “God Made You Like That” and “God Loves You Like That”
In the past, I wrote an article, “What Does It Mean When the Pope Gets His Theology Wrong?” That article was prompted by a personal friend of Pope Francis telling the media about what the Pope said in their private conversation. Later, Pope Francis was exposed again for having errant, anti-biblical views. In the subsequent event, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church told a homosexual man, who was sadly a victim of the rampant pedophilia in the Romish church, that God made him a homosexual.
The significance of this false claim was momentous, and everyone became aware of the Pope’s “leaking” his blasphemies through confidants. Once again, the Vatican was forced to do damage control for the Pope’s diametrically opposite position from the church he leads. Is the Roman Catholic Church caving to the homosexual political agenda? Will they hold to their own doctrine, or is this the time they change the truth of what they believe?
Homosexuality and pedophilia have long plagued the church at Rome, but they have opposed such practices in their official position. The mere suggestion of taking an anti-biblical position, on yet another doctrine, may be the beginning of an internal debate, or it may be a passing fancy of a consistently rogue pontiff.
To claim “God made homosexuals to be like that,” is to make God the cause of sin. It is to call the sin of homosexuality “good.” The Bible clearly does not condone sin; rather, it condemns it. In these instances, Pope Francis was manifesting the behavior of 2 Timothy 3:1–13.
Teaching that God’s Word is untrue is to call God Himself a liar. This is the lie the serpent told Adam and Eve (Gen 3). It is the spirit of anti-christ at work in the world, and even in those who claim Christ’s church. In contrast, God’s Word teaches that God is true and every man, including the Pope, is a liar (Rom 3:4).
The second claim by the Pope is as destructive as calling God a liar. The second claim is also a lie, “God loves you like that,“ meaning “God loves you as you continue in your reprobate, sin-filled lifestyle apart from Christ.” Again, in contrast to the Pope, Psalm 5:5 declares that, “God hates those who do iniquity.” This is repeated in Psalm 11:5.
The wrath of God is the practical execution of God’s hatred. It is the just judgment against sin and sinners. The wrath of God is revealed against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men (Rom 1:18). Romans 1:18–32 is one clear statement condemning sinners, with emphasis on God’s reprobation of homosexuals. How far are these biblical truths from the Pope’s statements!
The Pope, if he were a man of God, would preach and teach the truth of God’s Word, as true men of God do. The truth in these matters is that each man is fully responsible for his own sins. The sin of homosexuality is highlighted in these comments, but it is only one of many sins, for which men are waiting for judgment from God. We must ever be reminded that God has mercifully and graciously remedied man’s sin problem at the cross where Jesus shed His blood for the forgiveness of sins.
This blasphemy by the Pope is as much a sin, as the homosexuality he is espousing. The Pope should have taught this man the meaning of repentance; but instead, God is commanding both the Pope and the homosexual to repent and believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts 17:30).
God judges and punishes sinners, so it is the blind leading the blind into the pit for the Pope to tell this man that God loves him just the way He made him. The false counsel by the bishop of Rome should, once again demonstrate the error in following this man of lawlessness or being party to his global den of iniquities.
Our loving encouragement to our Roman Catholic family and friends is for them to leave this apostate church. The Reformers, the Puritans, and even bold Evangelicals have not been shy in historically calling the church at Rome, “the whore of Babylon,” and her bishop, “the anti-Christ.” As for this Argentinian Pope of Rome, he has made it rather easy for us to agree with our faithful fathers and their assessment.
