The One Reason You Do Not Believe in Jesus Christ
Faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal heaven, so where does one get this necessary faith?
The Bible says that faith comes by hearing (Rom 10:17). What does a person hear?
The Bible says that one hears the word of Christ, the word of the Cross, and he believes it, so to be saved from pending destruction (Acts 16:31; 1 Cor 1:18).
There is nothing more powerful in the universe than King Jesus, on His throne of glory (Ps 24; 110:1), and when He speaks, the power of heaven is unleashed in the world. He has spoken (Heb 1:1-3), and He is still speaking through men of God, who preach the Bible, which is the Word of God (2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet 1:20–21).
Because Jesus is the truth (John 14:6), when a person hears the word of Christ, he is hearing the word of truth, handled accurately by the Spirit of truth-filled-preacher (2 Tim 2:15). Thus, it is faith apprehending truth that results in one’s salvation. The believer knows who he believes and is convinced (2 Tim 1:12).
Why then does one person hear the word of Christ, and believes unto salvation, while another person hears the same word of truth but claims he does not believe it?
When the Holy Spirit, in the Gospel preacher proclaims truth to hearers, the same Spirit either conjoins Himself to that preached Word or He does not. In other words, unless the Spirit, who preaches the word of Christ, is also present in the one who receives it, a person simply will not believe in Christ, the truth. The baptism of the Holy Spirit, for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, is the one reason a person believes in Jesus Christ.
So, if you do not believe the Bible, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, today, then it is because you do not have the Holy Spirit (Jn 3:36; Rom 8:9; 1 Jn 5:12). If you do not have the Holy Spirit, you do not have faith. If you do not have faith, then you are surely not saved from the wrath of God weighing against your sin-filled life (Mt 3:7; Lk 3:7; Rom 1:18–32; 1 Thess 1:10).
If this is of concern to you, then you must go to a place where you can hear the Bible preached and taught. Not every building with the word “church” on it is legitimate, however. Therefore, it is wise to cry out to the omnipresent Holy Spirit, asking Him for guidance, and He will direct your steps (Prv 3:5–6).
Ask God to direct you into the truth that you, too, might believe and be saved from the wrath to come (1 Thess 1:10), along with eternal hell (Mt 25:41, 46; Jude 7; Rev 20:14–15). He alone is able to save those who come to Him upon His gracious calling (Mt 11:28; Rom 8:30).
Today, if you hear His voice, harden not your heart (Heb 3:13, 15; 4:17), for His voice goes out into the world (Jn 18:37; Rom 10:18), along with His Spirit to bring many sons to glory (Heb 2:10). May today be the day of your salvation if He wills and works the knowledge of Jesus into your heart by His grace (Jas 1:18).
The Bible says that God will give His Spirit to the one who asks (Lk 11:13; Jn 14:16; Col 1:9), so is it true that you have not because you have not asked (Jn 16:24)? Fear not, elect child of God…He has asked for you (Jn 14:16; 17:9), and this is why you believe.
