The World’s War Against King Jesus Christ
It was J. Gresham Machen’s contention that Christian Liberalism was not at all Christian. As he wrote against the idolatrous false religion of Liberalism in the 1920s, his musings remain utterly relevant in the 2020s. Or stated another way, the godless wicked imposters are currently having a “hey-day” in American culture and society.
It behooves Christ’s church in America to stop talking about spiritual warfare and engage the enemy that is closing ranks upon us and the freedoms secured for us by our forefathers, many of whom have already been “canceled” by the cultural elitist czars. It is time to call the wicked, “wicked.” It is time to expose their endless concatenation of evil ploys: race baiting, sexual deviance, slaughter of the unborn, robbing the middle class, intentional destruction of the United States, etc.
False religion has been a global spiritual pandemic for millennia. Political and government enterprises have been Antichrist since before the first advent of Christ. We must agree with Scripture that there is no new thing under the sun (Eccl 1:9). Kings, countries, and their citizenry are hurtling toward eternal punishment in hell and the lake of fire (Mt 25:41, 46; Jude 7; Rev 20:14–15). Today’s preacher must confront this generation of the sons of disobedience (Eph 2:2).
Normalizing sin, even to the point of legalizing it, is a recipe for inviting the wrath of God upon a nation. Conversely, criminalizing advocates of the holy Law of God, who alone is righteous, only makes matters worse for the children of wrath (Eph 2:3). Righteousness exalts a nation (Prv 14:34), and only the holy nation of Christ’s church, the Israel of God (Gal 6:16), will survive the coming Day of Judgment (1 Thess 5:1; Rev 19:11–21).
It is true that Jesus Christ defeated sin, death, the devil, and the evil one’s world system at the cross (Jn 16:33; 2 Cor 2:14–15). In the 2,000 years since Christ’s victory on the cross, like the morning sun, the Gospel has been spreading to the uttermost part of the earth (Mt 24:14; Mk 16:15; Acts 1:8). It has been resisted in diverse manners, but God has not failed to secure all of His elect in every place and every generation (Jn 10:28–29; Titus 3:5). He will continue to gather His chosen people into Christ’s church until the very last one of them is secured, and then the end shall come.
The whole world lies in the power of the evil one (1 Jn 5:19). As the prince of the power of the air (Eph 2:2), the political and cultural narrative is controlled by the father of lies (Jn 8:44). He blinds the minds of those who are following the course of this world (2 Cor 4:4; Eph 2:2), which is the wide way leading to destruction (Mt 7:13–14). As the people of the world head for hell and the earth prepares for destruction by fire (2 Pet 3:10–12), what about Christian preachers?
For too long Christian preachers have avoided confrontation with the world, preferring philosophy, psychology, social gospel, entertainment, or even joining the world in celebrating sin (ie. homosexuality, transgenderism, abortion, etc.). This must now stop. We are at war, and having been lulled to sleep by the devil, preachers must sound the warning bell of doom upon the wicked. If we say we love people, then we must be faithful to tell them the truth (Eph 4:15). God’s Word is truth (Ps 119:160; Jn 17:17).
The world is not hiding its war against the church. The world’s hatred against Yahweh, the Lord God, and His anointed includes the body of Christ in every place (Jn 7:7; 15:18–19; Rom 1:30). Because of the proliferation of godlessness by Hollywood, Washington D.C., American universities, athletic teams, and media empires, the darkness thrives more than ever in the United States.
What is the church’s message in the war for truth? First, we must warn the ungodly communists of the wrath to come (Mt 3:7; Lk 3:7). No nation can defend itself against the judgment of God. The United States deserves the wrath of God, and the church must not be shy about telling the evil doers that their promotion of evil warrants far more wrath than God currently bestows (Rom 1:18–32).
Second, we must have preachers cry out for God’s elect to come out of Babylon, the world system (Rev 18:4), controlled by the ruler of this world, Lucifer (Jn 12:31; 16:11). We must remember that amidst the masses of the children of the devil are the chosen, remnant children of God (Mic 4:7; Rom 11:5; 1 Pet 2:9; 1 Jn 3:10).
Third, we must hear preachers tell of the kingdom of God over and against the kingdom of this world. The church must warn the state that the judgment of God is upon them and that every nation is doomed to crumble for its unrighteousness. The nations are nothing to God (Is 40:17).
Preachers must declare the world to be the loser at the cross. It must be proclaimed that Christ was victorious at the cross and that He reigns as Lord of all (Acts 10:36), forevermore (Ex 15:11; Ps 146:10; Mic 4:7; Lk 1:33; Rev 11:15; 22:5).
Jesus Christ is the sovereign King of kings (1 Tim 6:15; Rev 1:5; 17:14). His Word declares judgment upon the world of sin, darkness, and death. The unbelieving, unwilling to bow the knee to the King of glory, must know the fear of what it means to fall into the hands of the angry God.
Finally, it is time for the preachers of God’s Word to stop telling the world that Jesus loves them. They must know that God is angry with the wicked all day, every day (Ps 7:11). They must know that God hates those who do iniquity (Ps 5:5; 11:5). In addition, they must know He is a just Judge of the very Law He has given (Is 33:22). His wrath is against the ungodly and the unrighteous, whose evil deeds are endless (Rom 1:18–32).
With every breath, we must persuade people that the world’s war against God has been resolved at the cross of Christ. The nations may continue to rage, despite Christ’s victory, but peace with God is reserved for those who come to the conquering King in humble repentance, trusting Him alone for new, abundant, eternal life, including the forgiveness of sins. Without that there is hell to pay.
