Through Christ: The Mediator Between God and Man

All that we are as Christians, and all that we have, has come to us through the mediation of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Tim 2:5). The supply of every good, sourced in God, that reaches His people, by grace, finds Jesus Christ as the conduit (Jas 1:17). God supplies His people with everything for life and ministry (2 Cor 9:12; Phil 4:19), that is, for those who are positioned in Christ Jesus. In return, we offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ our Lord (1 Pet 2:5), so that in all things God may be glorified (1 Pet 4:11).

As it pertains to man, our highest priority is the obtaining of salvation (1 Thess 5:9). There is only one Name under heaven, given among men, by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). His name is above every other name (Eph 1:21; Phil 2:9), and no one comes to the Father except through Him (Jn 14:6). Simply put, we are saved through the grace of our Lord Jesus (Acts 15:11).

Baptism now saves us (1 Pet 3:21). That is the baptism of the Holy Spirit who causes God’s elect, redeemed people to be born again of God to a living hope (1 Pet 1:3). The Holy Spirit, whom God poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ (Titus 3:6), is the gift of God (Acts 2:38; 10:45). The indwelling Holy Spirit is God working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, equipping us in every good thing to do God’s will (Rom 8:9, 11; Phil 2:13; Heb 13:21).

Christians exist through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Cor 8:6), in whom we were predestined to adoption as sons of God (Gal 3:26; Eph 1:5). Jesus is our just Judge who has already exposed our secrets (sins), but we were made to die to the Law through Him (Rom 2:16; 7:14). In other words, death reigned in us because of sin, but we have redemption gifting us righteousness through Christ (Rom 3:24). Jesus paid our debt of sin (Col 2:14), and God imputed His righteousness to us (1 Cor 1:30; 2 Cor 5:21).

By the mediation of Jesus Christ on the cross, God reconciled His lost sheep to Himself (2 Cor 5:18). Thus, we have peace with God through Jesus (Rom 5:1), having been filled with the fruit of His righteousness (Phil 1:11). This grace, leading to righteousness, results in our obtaining eternal life (Rom 5:21).

Jesus is triumphant over sin, death, and the devil, and God always leads us in His victory (2 Cor 2:14) because He gives us Christ’s victory (1 Cor 15:57), which we apprehend by faith (1 Jn 5:4), and this is the faith which comes through Him (Acts 3:16). For from Him is our faith (Eph 2:8–9; Phil 1:29), through Him is our faith, and to Him is our faith (Rom 11:36).

Just as Paul was given his apostleship through Jesus Christ (Gal 1:1), in order to preach peace like others (Acts 10:36), our comfort is abundant and our confidence causes us to give thanks to God (Rom 7:25; 2 Cor 3:4; 5:18). All of this is evidence we are being sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ (Heb 10:10).

If in the days of the apostles, miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Jesus Christ were manifest (Acts 2:22), then what is the salvation of your soul, today? Yes, we also exult in God (Rom 5:11), as we reign in life through Christ (Rom 5:17), who reigns in us (Rom 5:17, 21).

Christian, grace and truth have come to you through the mediation of Jesus Christ (Jn 1:17). God has revealed Jesus Christ, hence, His salvation to you. He did this by giving you His Spirit and His Word that you might know Him and the power of His resurrection (Phil 3:10). We belong to Christ and Christ belongs to God (1 Cor 3:23); therefore, those kept for Jesus (Jude 1:1) must join Jude in praising the Only God our Savior through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory, majesty, dominion, and authority before all time and now and forever. Amen (Jude 1:24–25).
