Why the Bible is Such a Threat to Evil Men
The godless people of this world dismiss Christians and also the Holy Bible. We are not progressives in the world; and the Holy Scriptures are for another era. Christians are also dismissed as do-gooders and self-righteous. Saints are considered the proverbial killjoys to the sinful world system of nation-states, societies, and cultures.
Believers in Jesus are unwelcome in academic institutions; while they are tolerated in work places and public offices, only as long as they keep their “religion” to themselves. Christian bakers, in America, are forced by the state to bake cakes for homosexuals, but the state simultaneously denies the rights of Christian businesses from operating in public areas (e.g. Chik-fil-A at an airport or university).
In the same way, it is trespassing for a Christian to address a young woman, who has intentions to murder her baby, on the property of a Planned Parenthood abortion mill; but the Christian is forced by the government to pay for the killing of these babies through taxation.
The Christian is despised when he identifies these hypocrisies. He is loathed when he exposes the evil corruption of the public figures behind the hypocrisies. It is hate speech, if he tells others what the Bible says about beliefs and practices. Why do evil people consider God’s Word hate speech? Why is the Bible such a threat to evil men?
Preachers of the Bible do not try to control their hearers, as the state tries to control people and conform them into compliance to the state. Rather, preachers persuade people to consider a significantly higher Law than the laws of the state.
If most fail compliance to the laws of men, then failure at the bar of God is assured. Admitting one’s failure is actually quite liberating, however, because with one’s confession is the removal of the façade of faux righteousness. The penitent confessor of sin is then introduced to Jesus Christ. Here is the Person and the place of a sinner’s salvation from a life of breaking laws.
The Bible is God’s Word of revelation (2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet 1:20–21). In it, God tells of His Law (Ex 20; Dt 5). There are sermons in the Bible. These are the Words of the prophets, who serve as prosecuting attorneys. God has filed His charges against rebel humanity. God’s Law tells us the just consequences to man’s transgressions. Eternal punishment is pending, for those who are condemned already (Mt 25:46; Jn 3:18).
The Holy Spirit moved men of God to write the Bible, which is called, “the Word of truth” (Ps 119:160; Jn 17:17; 2 Cor 6:17; Eph 1:13; 2 Tim 2:15). Fallen men, sinners, are children of the devil, by nature and practice (Jn 8:44; Eph 2:3; 1 Jn 3:10). Every man is a liar (Rom 3:4) because they mimic their father. The Bible calls him, “the father of lies.” He is a deceiver, and this makes him the destroyer. The object of his destruction is mankind.
Thus, the natural man is a fool because he prefers to be deceived into sin. Man loves sin (Jn 3:19), so he is easy prey for the temptations of his abusive father. Ironically, the book that educates man about God’s predetermined plan of salvation is avoided, or even suppressed (e.g. public education). Ironically, it is the Bible that reveals to men why they labor to suppress the truth and prefer lives enslaved to sin (Jn 8:34; Rom 1:18).
With all this irony, one would expect foolish sinners to come to their senses and be saved from God’s immediate and future wrath to come (Mt 3:7; Lk 3:7; Rom 1:18; 1 Thess 1:10). The Bible tells us that no one comes to God, in repentance and faith, except through Jesus Christ (Jn 6:37). Apart from Jesus Christ, a man can do nothing of himself (Jn 15:5). There is no will, nor ability, in totally depraved humanity that can change a man’s disposition (Jn 1:12–13; Rom 8:7; 9:16).
Sinful men hate God’s Word, the Bible, because it tells them they are utter failures (Gen 6:5; Is 64:6; Jer 17:9; Rom 1:18–32; 3:10–12; Eph 2:12). It informs them that they are evil (Jn 3:19; Eph 5:11). It qualifies them with descriptive words, like: “sinner,” “evil,” “rebels,” “enemies of God,” helpless,” “hopeless,” etc.
The pride of sinful man is enraged by God’s true assessment. We know this because the Bible tells us. Man is simply in deluded denial of his true status in this world of sin. Obdurate men, despite their arrogant boasts, are hurtling toward eternal hell. They do not want to hear it (1 Cor 1:18).
It is the Bible that reveals the true identity and evil works of Lucifer, the devil. It is the Bible that reveals the true status of fallen men and their immersion in sin. It is the Bible that cuts through the façade of human success stories (Eccl 1:2). It is the Bible that tells us why the world is such a deplorable environment.
The Bible has always been, is, and will remain a threat to evil men in education, government, business, sport, philosophy, psychology, entertainment, etc. Shakespeare is not a threat. J.K. Rowling is not a threat. In fact, no book ever written by men is a threat to men…except one.
The Bible has a divine Author, which invariably, is denied by those who have never read it. Even those who read it; yet, without illumination from the Holy Spirit (you can read about what that means…in the Bible), will join in the cacophony of disparagement (ie. Ivy League divinity schools).
Still, in every generation and in all nations, the Word of God is faithfully preached by Spirit-filled men of God. What these men have received from God, they pass on to other faithful men, who are all objects of mercy and grace from God. How do we know? The Bible is no longer a threat to them. They have been exposed for what they are in truth. They have grace to believe the Bible, and the Spirit of truth has made them to love the truth. The very Word of their condemnation has turned out to be the true Word of their salvation. How do we know this? It’s in the Bible.
