Why You are Wasting Your Life without Jesus Christ
The Bible lays out all of human history — from God creating everything in our physical world (Gen 1–2), to His destroying it with fire on the Day of the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Pet 3:10–12). Everything has its existence from Almighty God (Col 1:16; Heb 3:4), who sustains all things by the Word of His power (Heb 1:3). This is the sovereign God, who sits in the heavens and does as He pleases (Ps 115:3; 135:6).
God’s initial assessment of His handiwork was “very good” (Gen 1:31). Later, after man’s fall into sin (Gen 3), the creation was subjected to utter degradation. Whereas, the first man and woman were made in the image of God, male and female, Adam’s progeny is now poisoned with sin from conception and bears the image of the devil. The natural man (1 Cor 2:14), with his sin nature (Eph 2:3), is offended by the truth of his true identity, as a child of the devil (Jn 8:44; 1 Jn 3:10).
The judgment of God against sin is evident, even prevalent, against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men (Jn 3:18; Rom 1:18). The reprobate is turned over to the desires of his heart (Rom 1:18–32), which is a judgment because his heart is wicked, corrupt, and deceived (Jer 17:9). The result is destruction. Man is an addict, a lunatic, who selfishly seeks to gratify his passion and glory in himself.
Delusion prevails, as the blinded minds of the deceived imagine they are autonomous (2 Cor 4:4; Eph 4:17). Satan sends his philosophers to inspire the workers of iniquity to do evil. Men love darkness (Jn 3:19), and their deeds are called “sin” and “filthy rags” (Is 64:6). Sinners love the world and the things of the world (1 Jn 2:15–17). Only the wise man can see that, “All is vanity (Eccl 1:2)!”
The curse of human existence is captured in economic terms, by the Apostle Paul, “For we brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it, either (1 Tim 6:7).” We observe this without interruption during our vaporous lives, but vain pursuits in the kingdom of this world mark most peoples’ lives. It is meaningless, and then we are gone and forgotten. Still, men strive to make a name for themselves (Gen 11) and accumulate as much of the world’s goods as possible to manage (Mt 19:21; Lk 12:15; 14:33).
Depression, despair, and utter hopelessness set in if the delusion abates for diverse reasons. Suicide is the final act of drawing attention to oneself, in the protest against the futility of our existence. Self-murderers have seen too much. They know too much, but their actions play right in the schemes of the devil, who was a murderer from the beginning (Jn 8:44). Their way of escape leads them straight to God’s throne of judgment (Heb 9:27; 2 Cor 5:10), where they must give an account.
History merely repeats itself, which means future hope in technology or human potential is a lie. The progressive one works hard on the treadmill, unaware of the familiar status, after his labors are thought to be finished. Is he blind? Yes, that is exactly the Bible’s assessment (Mt 15:14). He even ignores the warning of eternal hell, which is the eternal home of sinners (Eccl 12:5).
Sin destroys the man (Rom 3:23), and then he must pay the penalty for that which destroyed him (Rom 6:23)! It is madness, but the deception is great upon the earth. As a man kills his neighbor, sending him to judgment, hell, and the lake of fire (Rev 20:14–15), so the murderer seals his own place in the same torturous prison, forever (Rev 22:15).
Only God’s mercy can deliver one from this futility and accompanying delusion (Rom 9:15–16). It is God’s prerogative and will (Jn 1:13), to save a remnant of humanity called “the elect of God” (Rom 8:33). God is glorified for showing mercy, and saving these chosen ones by His grace (Eph 2:8–9). They are vessels of mercy, indeed (Rom 9:23).
In themselves, even redeemed souls retain their status of insignificance; but God reconciles His elect to Himself, through the sole mediator between God and man, the man, Christ Jesus (1 Tim 2:5). Only Jesus Christ is significant. He alone has the name that is exalted. It is His kingdom that is eternal and glorious (2 Pet 1:11). Babylon will surely fall into utter ruin (Rev 18). King Jesus Christ, however, reigns, forever (Ex 15:18; Ps 146:10; Rev 11:5; 22:5).
When the Light of the world shines into the darkness of men’s hearts (2 Cor 4:6), it is called “salvation.” With joy, Christians declare the truth that sets us free (Jn 8:32), “He saved us (Titus 3:5).”
A life apart from the only Savior of sinners is a death (dead soul), leading to eternal death (body and soul). It is a fallen waste that will help fuel the fires of eternal hell. In writing this, friend, I am pressing the imperative that demands your immediate consideration. Every moment, you potentially live one breath removed from your unchangeable future in eternity.
Stop what you are doing, today. Look at the man crucified on the cross. His bloodied figure is a billboard, on the wide road to destruction (Mt 7:13). The message is clear, “Repent of your sins, and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.” Jesus saves sinners, and if by His grace He befriends you, then your life will no longer carry the stench of waste.
The Christian life is the life of God, in the soul of one granted the grace of life, from the Holy Spirit of adoption (Rom 8:15, 23). Brought into the family of God, your life of faith in Christ has meaning, purpose, and His significance. Christ is your life, Christian (Gal 2:20). You belong to Him (1 Cor 3:23), and this is silver and gold with the dross removed, forevermore.
